Dave Spencer Social Value in Construction

Dave is passionate about helping people, organisations and communities develop to achieve their ambitions and live more fulfilling lives. He has a keen interest in organisational cultures, complex systems and the many influences on behaviour that extend beyond strategy, policy and process. This is a consistent thread throughout his working life.

Dave served as a police officer for 30 years up to 2019 in a wide variety of roles from local policing to national policy development. This included 2 years at the Association of Chief Police Officers and short secondments to HM Inspectorate of Constabularies. His police career concluded at the College of Policing where he had developed and led a programme of peer reviews of police forces across a broad spectrum of topics.

A Social Value Analyst is a natural fit for Dave drawing on three strong attributes. His passion for helping others; his knowledge of people, their motivations, behaviours and relationships and his skills in research, analysis and effective communication.

Dave enjoys working with Sonar Engagement helping the construction industry better understand the wants and needs of local communities affected by construction improvement projects. The delivery of social value outcomes that make a difference for those communities he finds very rewarding.

Since the conclusion of his police service Dave has pursued a variety of different work opportunities, that all align to the common thread of helping others. Examples include:
• Supporting local community safety partnerships develop long term collaborative problem solving approaches with other partners, communities and local organisations.
• Supporting people from underrepresented groups join the police service through coaching and mock assessment centres.
• Executive coaching of senior people to support their personal development, overcome challenges and prepare for interviews and assessment centres.
• Create and deliver leadership development programmes for professionals primarily within the public sector.

Dave holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Post Graduate Certificate (Level 7) in Coaching.

He is a Member of the Chartered Management Institute and the Association for Coaching.
